About Lisa

I've been teaching dance for over fifteen years — ballroom, Latin and social dancing — in village halls just outside Kettering. I teach because I love it, and because I love watching other people discover that they can do it too.

I hold a teaching qualification from the National Association of Teachers of Dancing (NATD) — one of the most respected awarding bodies in the world — and I keep my own dancing going as a student, because the best teachers never stop learning.

My classes have become a real community. Many of the people who come have been coming for years, and they count their classmates among their closest friends. If you're nervous about coming for the first time — that's completely normal. I've met hundreds of people who were convinced they had two left feet. Most of them are still dancing.

Wherever you're starting,
there's a class for you.

All classes are at Weekly Village Hall, just outside Kettering. A short drive from Burton Latimer, Isham, Broughton and Pytchley. Free parking on site. No partner needed for any class. Just turn up.

The dances.

You don't need to know any of these to start. That's what the classes are for. If you've watched Strictly Come Dancing and thought "I'd love to try that". You're in exactly the right place.

Waltz

The classic ballroom dance — elegant, flowing and one of the most recognisable in the world. Danced to slow, lilting music. A perfect starting point for complete beginners, and a regular on Strictly.

Quickstep

Light, lively and fun. A fast-moving ballroom dance with a bouncy, uplifting feel. One of the most enjoyable dances to learn once you find your feet. Often a crowd favourite on Strictly.

Foxtrot

Smooth and sophisticated — big-band music, flowing movement, wonderfully timeless. Slightly slower than the quickstep and a great second dance to learn.

Cha Cha

One of the Latin dances — a distinctive, cheeky rhythm: cha cha cha. Danced in place rather than travelling across the floor. Full of character and fun.

Rumba

The slowest of the Latin dances — expressive and graceful, with an emphasis on movement and rhythm rather than speed. Particularly popular with those who prefer a more relaxed pace.

Social & Sequence

Everyone on the floor performs the same steps at the same time. Wonderfully sociable — no awkwardness about leading or following, no partner required. New sequences introduced regularly.

Your first class.

Most people feel a little nervous before their first class. That's completely normal. Here's exactly what happens.

When you arrive

Come in, introduce yourself, and I'll make you feel welcome straight away. There's no pressure to dive in. You can watch for a bit if you'd prefer. Tea and coffee are usually on the go.

During the class

I introduce each step clearly and slowly, and check everyone is comfortable before moving on. There's no racing ahead. By the end you'll have something to show for it.

Do I need a partner?

No. Most people come on their own — that's completely normal. Where partnered dancing is involved, I manage the rotation so nobody is left standing. Come alone or bring a friend.

What to wear

Footwear
Soft-soled shoes you can pivot in. Not thick-soled trainers. Court shoes or any flat shoe with a smooth sole. If unsure, wear something comfortable.
Clothing
Anything you can move in. No dance wear needed. Layers are a good idea as you'll warm up.
What to bring
Just yourself.

Adult classes: £7 per session  ·  Children: £5  ·  Tea dance: £10

Children's classes.

I run a weekly dance class for children aged approximately 6 to 10. Saturday mornings, 10:00am–11:00am at the Village Hall. The cost is £5 per class. No experience needed, no pressure, just movement and laughter.

There's no fixed age grouping. If your child is a little younger or older than that range, just get in touch and I can advise whether it's a good fit.

Parents and guardians are welcome to stay and watch.

Safeguarding & DBS

I hold a current DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) enhanced certificate — the standard background check required for anyone working with children in the UK. A copy is available to parents on request.

If you have any questions about safeguarding or child protection, please ask before your child's first class. I'm always happy to talk it through.
